Skomer viewed across Jack Sound
After the hard work of the Scallop survey and the excitment of Urchin scissors in previous years we were looking forward to some simple fun with territorial fish... unfortunately the weather was 'a bit' wet and the vis faded as the weekend went on. As ever we had a great time thanks to Kate's slick organisation and the new improved Lobster Pot pub.

Day 1 The Pool
Day 1 The Pool
Things started looking pretty good... until we tried looking for fish. Unfortuntely the fish had mostly taken the weekend off. To be honest the vis didn't lend itself to search off into the distance so it was a macro trip. On the bright side the bryozoans were very nice :-)

Our second survey site was similarly light on fish, I have some nice shots of the backs of Goldsinny's heads but that was about it. The dives were both over gently sloping boulder fields, rich in hydroids and bryozoans with plenty of slugs - and a bit of a swell which made taking pictures a bit hit and miss. Excellent food in the refurbished Lobster Pot in Marloes afterwards before a stormy night in our tent.
Day 2 Waybench

Overnight the condition worsened a bit and our first dive was a bit murky, but still interesting though increasingly hard to photograph... We went in for a second dive but I don't have a single photo from it which proves that by then the conditions were bad enough that no one else bothered. Although the diving was compromised it was another fun trip and great to meet our Welsh friends, and swap stories about Sheena ;-)
Day 2 Surface
Day 2 Surface
West Wales is one of our favourite places, we've yet to set foot on Skomer but I think we've been round it a few times now and it was looking great between showers and on an early morning breakfast walk.
