Uk Diving » Norfolk in June '11

2011 had a bit of a false dawn with the surprise dives in April but we knew the good stuff would take a couple more months to arrive. The vis still came a little early, and you can watch it arrive over a couple of weeks in these galleries :-) We've made some great friends with Manta divers who have dropped us on some great wrecks and Dawn has been out with GYSAC as well. Mr Squashy would have had his first outing of the year too but a blocked slip meant it was time for plan B - shore diving at Sheringham.

	Dawn dives the Aberhill Dawn had a fine time returning to the Aberhill, with tales of the many, many slugs - unfortunately the vis was still coming in and so photography was hard work!		Dawn dives the Conway (or Valkure) The Conway (which was renamed the Walkure later in its life - before it sank) is one of the staples of diving from Sea Palling - not too far out and easy to find. That doesn't make it a bad dive and Dawn found plenty to keep her busy.
	The Willowpool - Sea Palling Stan and Jim did a great job dropping us on the Willowpool. It's a little further than the obvious choices but nicely recognisable but the killer thing was the 8-10m vis which really opened the site up and made for a bright relaxing dive, the best kind. We even shot a little video - see the link below.		Weekend at Sea Palling - surface After a cracking dive on the Willowpool - the vis had arrived in a bus and we had 8-10m on it - the biggest event of the weekend was the stand-in tractor driver's meltdown and an hours hiatus whilst the real tractor man was brought back to rescue the situation. In the excitement we somewhat overlooked that several people (including Dawn) were almost killed - proof that racing around like a prat with a boat trailer on a busy beach really isn't a good idea. 	Sheringham shore dive The vis was modest in the shallows and Barry and Adam had a better dive just 50-100m further out but as a complete martyr I went in last and had to keep it snappy. I reckon I got getting on for 2m vis and that's straight off the beach.		Sheringham shore surface The day after I was offered a starring role in a mural Team Thistlethwaite had more instant gratification as they were captured dramatically emerging out of (or stumbling bacwards into) the mighty North Sea. In fact we'd have been on the boat but the slip at East Runton was blocked... I hope it's free next time.
